The Service

Smartermeter.ie is a free electricity price comparison tool for Irish households. It is not operated by ESB Networks. The service lets you provide your ESB smart meter data — either by uploading it yourself, or by connecting your ESB Networks account so we can retrieve it for you (see Connecting Your ESB Networks Account below) — and receive personalised estimates of annual electricity costs across multiple suppliers and tariffs. You can also simulate changes to your usage to see how they would affect your bill. Plans are ranked solely by your estimated annual cost — see the Referral Fees & Advertising section below for details on how the service is funded. The service provides information to help you compare options; it does not constitute financial, energy, or other professional advice.

Eligibility

You must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of the Republic of Ireland with access to ESB smart meter interval data to use this service.

Your Account

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
• You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised access to your account at team@smartermeter.ie.

Connecting Your ESB Networks Account

SmarterMeter offers an optional feature that connects to your ESB Networks account (esbnetworks.ie) and retrieves your smart meter data for you, so you do not have to download and upload it yourself. SmarterMeter is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by ESB Networks or ESB. If you choose to use this feature, you:

• Authorise SmarterMeter to access your ESB Networks account on your behalf, using the credentials you provide, solely to retrieve your smart meter data and to set up or maintain the connection.
• Understand that this access may happen automatically and from time to time — for example, to keep your usage data up to date — until you disconnect the account or delete your SmarterMeter account.
• Confirm that the credentials are your own, or that you are authorised to use them, and that you are entitled to grant this authorisation.
• Are responsible for ensuring your use of this feature is consistent with any terms that apply between you and ESB Networks. SmarterMeter accesses the account only at your request and on your behalf.
• May withdraw this authorisation at any time by disconnecting your ESB Networks account in your settings, deleting your SmarterMeter account, or emailing team@smartermeter.ie. We will then stop accessing the account and delete the stored credentials.

How we store, protect, and delete these credentials is described in our Privacy Policy. You can always choose not to use this feature and upload your smart meter data manually instead.

Accuracy of Tariff Data

Tariff information is checked against supplier websites and updated regularly. However:

• Although we update our prices very regularly, there is a chance that tariff data may lag behind supplier price changes.
• Although we strive to capture all complex tariff conditions (e.g. welcome discounts, cashback, fuel mix bonuses), some may not be fully reflected.
• All cost figures are estimates based on your historical usage data, plus any future usage changes you choose to simulate (e.g. adding an EV, solar, battery, or shifting load to off-peak). Any savings shown for such changes are illustrative estimates only and are not a quotation or a guarantee of actual results.

We do not warrant that comparison results are accurate, complete, current, or error-free, and the plan shown as cheapest may not in fact be the cheapest for your circumstances. You rely on the results at your own risk. Always verify pricing and terms directly with the supplier before making any switching or purchasing decision. Smartermeter.ie accepts no liability for decisions made based on comparison figures.

Referral Fees & Advertising

In accordance with the Consumer Protection Act 2007, we disclose the following:

Smartermeter.ie may earn income in two ways. First, we may receive a referral fee from an electricity supplier when a user switches through this site and the switch completes. Second, we may display advertising for, and suggest, third-party products and services, and may receive a referral, affiliate, or advertising fee when you engage a supplier we introduce you to.

These advertising placements and product suggestions are separate from, and do not influence, how electricity plans are presented or ranked.

Third-Party Products & Advertisers

From time to time we may show suggestions and advertising for third-party products and services. Where you ask us to, we can also pass your details to one of these suppliers so they can give you a quote. By requesting a quote, you:

• Confirm that the personal details you have provided are accurate and belong to you.
• Consent to those details being shared with the named supplier only, for the purpose of providing you with a quote.
• Understand that Smartermeter.ie is an introduction service only — any contract for goods or services is formed directly between you and the third-party supplier, subject to that supplier's own terms and conditions.

These suppliers are independent businesses. We do not manufacture, install, or supply their products, and our suggestions are not professional advice, an endorsement, or a guarantee about any product, installer, or outcome. Always satisfy yourself as to a supplier's suitability before entering into any contract. You may withdraw a quote request before we pass it on by emailing team@smartermeter.ie.

Switch Requests

By submitting a switch request, you:

• Confirm that the personal details you have provided are accurate and belong to you.
• Consent to those details being shared with the named supplier only, for the purpose of processing your electricity supply switch.
• Understand that Smartermeter.ie is an introduction service only — the supply contract is formed directly between you and the supplier, subject to the supplier's own terms and conditions.
• Understand that the switch is subject to the supplier's eligibility criteria and acceptance.

You may withdraw your consent before the switch is actioned by emailing team@smartermeter.ie.

Intellectual Property

The Smartermeter.ie website, software, and original content are owned by Smartermeter.ie and protected by intellectual property laws. Tariff information displayed on the site remains the property of the respective electricity suppliers.

Limitation of Liability

The service is provided on an “as is” basis without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• Smartermeter.ie is not liable for indirect, consequential, or economic losses arising from use of the service.
• Smartermeter.ie is not liable for the products, services, advice, or conduct of any third-party supplier, installer, or advertiser introduced through the site — any such contract is between you and that third party.
• Total aggregate liability does not exceed zero (as the service is provided free of charge).

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Irish law. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ireland. The Irish courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from use of this service.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision. When we make a material change, we'll also email account holders to let you know.
